About the Institute – Institute of Biophysics and Biochemistry

The Institute of Biophysics and Biochemistry under the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek is a premier research institution conducting fundamental and applied research in biology, biophysics, biochemistry, and related fields, as well as training highly qualified scientific personnel.

Institute History and Milestones

The Institute was established to advance fundamental science and explore biological, biophysical, and biochemical processes in living systems:

1974–1977

The foundation of the scientific school was laid with the establishment of lipid biochemistry and biophysics departments within the Institute of Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences.

1985–2012

Following the merger with the Institute of Physiology, the Institute of Physiology and Biophysics of the Academy of Sciences was established and operated.

2012–2018

To consolidate research potential, laboratories operated under the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry named after Academician O.S. Sadykov.

November 1, 2018

In accordance with resolutions of the Government of Uzbekistan, the Institute of Biophysics and Biochemistry was officially re-established under the National University of Uzbekistan as an autonomous scientific institution.

Institute Goals

The primary objective is conducting world-class fundamental and applied research in molecular and cellular biophysics, metabolomics, genomics, and physiology, implementing research achievements into medicine, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture.

Core Objectives

Fundamental Research: Investigating the biophysical and biochemical mechanisms of biological processes in living organisms.
Innovative Developments: Designing novel pharmaceuticals, neuroprotectors, and anticoagulants derived from native natural sources.
Academic Training: Educating highly qualified specialists with PhD and DSc degrees in postgraduate education programs.
Global Collaboration: Executing joint scientific initiatives with leading international universities and institutes.
