Institute of Biophysics and Biochemistry under the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek – is a leading research institution conducting fundamental and applied research in the fields of biology, biophysics, biochemistry, and related areas, as well as training highly qualified scientific staff.

Institute History and Milestones

The Institute has a rich scientific history dedicated to advancing fundamental sciences and in-depth study of biological, biophysical, and biochemical processes in living systems:

1974–1977

The foundation of the scientific school was laid with the establishment of the lipid biochemistry and biophysics departments within the Institute of Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (AS Uz).

1985–2012

As a result of the merger of the Biophysics Department with the Institute of Physiology, the Institute of Physiology and Biophysics of AS Uz was established and operated successfully.

2012–2018

To consolidate scientific potential, the laboratories were transferred to the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry named after Acad. A.S. Sadykov, AS Uz.

November 1, 2018

In accordance with the resolutions of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute of Biophysics and Biochemistry was officially re-established under NUUz as an independent research institution.
